From visiting apple orchards and pumpkin patches for a day of cider treats and fun activities to Friday night football games, fall is full of things for everyone to enjoy. When you are sick of the traffic and ready to leave Pittsburgh behind for an adventure, a fall road trip sounds perfect. Fallingwater
Experience the fall season by escaping the city to the mountains to see the architectural beauty that is Fallingwater. This home belongs to the prominent Pittsburgh family, the Kaufmanns and it was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in the 1930s. This mountain home is just a 1.25-hour drive from the city, and open to tours. You and your friends and family can take a peek inside the home that is settled among the falls. Plus, if you are a big architecture fan, another Frank Lloyd Wright home, Kentuck Knob, is just 15 minutes away from Fallingwater!
Ohiopyle State Park
Just an hour and a half drive away from the city is Ohiopyle State Park! One of the best parts of fall is seeing the leaves change vibrant colors and this is the perfect place for it! Plus there are so many great activities to take advantage of including viewing the waterfalls, over 20 miles of biking trails, over 80 miles of hiking trails, picnic areas, and rock climbing.
Penn’s Cave
A little farther outside the city, about a three-hour drive, is Penn’s Cave. This is a perfect early-fall get-a-way to soak up some of the fresh air while the temps aren’t too chilly. Tour the Penn’s Cave by boat to stare at the stalagmites and stalactites. Make sure you layer up, it can get pretty cold in the cavern.
Pennsylvania Grand Canyon
A little over three hours away from Pittsburgh is the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. Also known as Pine Creek Gorge, this Grand Canyon is the perfect place to go leaf-peeping! Located within Tioga State Forest, Leonard Harrison State Park offers an elevation of 1,883 feet and some of the best views around.
