Off Road Capability of the 2020 Jeep Gladiator

The 2020 Jeep Gladiator is capable of going anywhere thanks to an approach angle of 43.6 degrees, breakover angle of 20.3 degrees, departure angle of 26 degrees, and a ground clearance of 11.1 inches. With up to 30 inches of water fording your Gladiator will have no problem trekking through any streams that threaten to stand in your way.

What truly makes the Gladiator the most capable midsize truck is Jeep’s legendary 4x4 systems. The Gladiator Sport and Overland models come standard with the Command-Trac 4x4 system with a two-speed transfer case with a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio. This system also features a heavy-duty third-generation Dana 44 front and rear axles with a 3.73 rear axle ratio. To help improve traction and increase torque when driving during slippery low-traction situations Jeep offers an available Trac-Lok limited-slip rear differential on the Sport and Overland models.

The top tier Rubicon model uses a Rock-Trac 4x4 system with a heavy-duty third-generation Dana 44 front and rear axles with a “4LO” ratio of 4:1. The Rubicon also comes standard with Tru-Lok locking differentials and a 4.10 front and rear axle ratio. A segment-exclusive electronic sway-bar disconnect continues to improve the off-road capability of the Rubicon model by improving total suspension travel and articulation. The Rubicon boasts an impressive crawl ratio of 84.2:1 with the standard six-speed manual transmission. When equipped with the optional eight-speed automatic transmission the Gladiator Rubicon has a crawl ratio of 77.2:1.

For the best grip in low-traction situations both 4x4 systems, Command-Trac and Rock-Trac, offer full time torque management.

The Jeep Gladiator Rubicon model also benefits from 33-inch off-road tires and a rear steel heavy-duty off-road rear bumper. The front bumper of the Rubicon model has an available front steel winch with removable end caps.

Every version of the 2020 Jeep Gladiator comes with a Trail Rated badge thanks to the available Command-Trac and Rock-Trac 4x4 systems. To earn the Trail Rated badge the Gladiator had to pass a series of tests in five categories: traction, water fording, maneuverability, articulation, and ground clearance.

So you don’t cause damage to your fuel tank, automatic transmission oil pan, or transfer case while adventuring over boulders and fallen trees the Gladiator uses four skid plates and bars to protect these important components. The Gladiator Rubicon model features steel rock rails and segment-exclusive rock rails for the bed corners to help keep the exterior of your Jeep in excellent condition.
