What is this EcoDiesel engine?
It’s important, before we get into more details, that you can understand the engine that we are discussing. The engine that you’ll be able to add onto your Gladiator is a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6. This engine has the ability to pump out up to 442 pound-feet of torque and around 260 horsepower. This is an impressive amount of power that will ensure that whether you’re on the pavement or dirt, you’ll be able to handle anything that life throws at you. Along with this power, you’ll be able to get engine stop-start technology in order to improve fuel economy. Paired up to this engine is a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission which offers more than forty individual shift maps to help optimize the engine. You’ll be getting great 4x4 capabilities, performance, and fuel economy.
What changes have been made to this engine?
This EcoDiesel engine has had a few changes made to it before Jeep is offering it with the Gladiator. This was an opportunity to really update the engine and make sure it’s exactly what you need it to be. That’s why something like the exhaust gas recirculation system has been updated to help minimize turbocharger energy losses, which, in turn, can help to increase the overall fuel economy. Other changes here include completely redesigned lightweight aluminum alloy pistons, improved NVH, dual overhead camshafts, redesigned cylinder head intake ports, a new-generation water-cooled turbocharger, an optimized compression ratio, and a block that is cast with compacted graphite iron to help provide strength and to even dampen vibrations.
What else does the Gladiator offer?
The Gladiator is more than just a power-hungry machine. Jeep has put a lot of thought and detail into making sure that it has the technology and comfort you need. That’s why it offers you cloth seats, lockable rear and behind-seat storage, push-button start, in-bed cargo lighting, a 5-inch display, trailer sway control, and LED interior lighting. Other available features that you’re likely to find include dual-zone climate control, a 7-inch display screen, additional USB ports, a body-colored hardtop, leather-trimmed seats, all-terrain tires, remote keyless entry, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
