2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs 2019 Chevrolet Traverse near Bethel Park, PA

There are so many excellent SUVs on the market making it hard to find the one that is just right for your lifestyle. Two of the models that stand out from the segment are the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Chevrolet Traverse. We are pitting these SUVs against each other, comparing all that they have to offer from powertrains to technology and even safety features to help you make the most informed decision. We have to say, both of these models are outstanding and this race is going to be tough. Keep reading the rest of our comprehensive review to find out which one of these SUVs take the crown.

2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Power & Handling

The Grand Cherokee boasts one phenomenal powertrain lineup, catering to a variety of drivers. The standard engine in the 2019 model year is a Pentastar 3.6L V6 that generates up to 295 horsepower. This engine is offered with standard RWD and available 4WD. More power can be found with the 5.7L V8 engine that produces up to 360 horsepower. This engine comes outfitted with standard 4WD. Upping the anty is the performance geared 6.4L V8 engine found under the hood of the SRT trim level. This engine pumps out up to 475 horsepower and also comes with standard 4WD. The final engine, a supercharged 6.2L V8, is found under the hood of the most performance geared model called the Trackhawk. This engine cranks out up to 707 horsepower and comes with standard 4WD. All engines powering Grand Cherokee models are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. When properly equipped, this Jeep can tow up to 7,400 pounds.

2019 Chevrolet Traverse Power & Handling

The Chevrolet Traverse's engine lineup is a little less impressive, with just two options. The first is a 3.6-liter V6 that produces up to 310 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque. This engine is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission and can be outfitted with standard FWD or available AWD. Not nearly as capable as the Grand Cherokee when it comes to traction and off-roading capabilities. The second engine only powers one of the Traverse's models, the RS. This 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine creates up to 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. This engine is only outfitted with FWD. The Traverse can only tow up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped.

2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Features & Design

There is a Grand Cherokee trim level for everyone in the 2019 model year! In total, there are seven trim levels to choose from. If you are looking for a sleek commuting vehicle you can choose from trims like the Laredo, Limited, Overland, and Summit. These models come with features like infotainment touchscreens, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, self-parking systems, noise-reducing glass, dual-zone automatic climate control, parking sensors, keyless entry and ignition, premium sound systems, and more! People looking to take their adventures off-road will love the Trailhawk trim, which comes outfitted with features like skid plates, an adjustable air suspension, off-roading tires, 4WD with low-range gearing, and a terrain-selectable traction control system. The SRT and Trackhawk models are perfect for those that have a need for speed. These trims come with features like specialized AWD systems, performance tires, lightweight wheels, aggressive bodywork, sport-tuned steering, selectable performance modes and more!

2019 Chevrolet Traverse Features & Design

The Traverse also offers seven total trim levels for the 2019 model year. Sadly, none of these trim levels cater to people who love to off-road or get their heart racing on the track. Standard features include a rearview camera, OnStar communications, a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a tilting steering wheel. The upper trims add on features like second-row captain's chairs, mirror-integrated turn signals, a power liftgate, heated front seats, premium sound systems, ventilated front seats, wireless device charging, and a panoramic sunroof. There are quite a few more features available in packages.

Conclusions

It is clear to see the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee is lapping the Chevrolet Traverse, crossing the finish line before the Traverse can even take off. The Grand Cherokee offers so many more features within their trim lineup, which caters to a wide variety of consumers, unlike the Traverse.
