2017 RAM 1500 vs 2017 Chevrolet Silverado near Bethel Park, PA

A full-size pickup is like a best friend; it's always there for you when you need a hand with the latest job. A truck is a vehicle made for work and play, and it's important that when you look at buying a new truck, you find one that strikes the balance between the two for you. There are many great options for a half-ton pickup, including the 2017 RAM 1500 and the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado that we'll be talking about today. Both trucks have a lot of great traits, but we'll show you why we believe the RAM 1500 is the better option for most buyers.

2017 RAM 1500 Power & Handling

The 2017 RAM 1500 has three unique engine options in its lineup: a gasoline V6, a gasoline V8, and a diesel V6. First is the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, a gasoline engine that is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and generates 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. This engine can tow up to 7,610 pounds and handle a payload of 1,890 pounds. Alternatively, there's a gasoline 5.7-liter HEMI V8 that powers the 1500 with 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. This engine is available with either an eight-speed or a six-speed automatic transmission and can tow up to 10,640 pounds and haul a payload of 1,800 pounds. Finally, there's a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine that fills the 1500 with 240 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque-this engine also receives up to 29 miles per gallon! 2017 RAM 1500s equipped with this engine can tow up to 9,210 pounds and haul 1,600 pounds.

2017 Chevrolet Silverado Power & Handling

The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado also comes with three different engines, although it doesn't offer as much variety as the RAM 1500. The first engine is a 4.3-liter V6 that can run on gasoline or an E85 blend; the other engines offer this ability as well. This V6 creates 285 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque and is paired with a six-speed automatic. This powertrain can tow up to 7,600 pounds. Alternatively, there's a 5.3-liter V8 engine that is capable of 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque and can tow up to 11,000 pounds. Finally, there's a 6.2-liter V8 that produces 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. This powertrain can tow up to 12,500 pounds when equipped with the costly Max Trailering package. Payload amounts for the whole lineup range from 1,980 and 2,430 pounds.

2017 RAM 1500 Features & Design

The 2017 RAM 1500 comes in three cab styles, three bed lengths, and ten core trim levels. It can seat between three and six passengers, and bed lengths range from 5-foot-7-inches to 8-foot. The base trim level is known as the Tradesman and includes standard features such as air-conditioning, six speakers, a Class IV receiver hitch, a seven-pin wiring harness, cruise control, a spray-in bedliner, automatic headlights, and a locking tailgate. There are nine other trim levels: Express, HFE, SLT, Big Horn, Sport, Rebel, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, and Limited.

2017 Chevrolet Silverado Features & Design

The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado has a similar amount of configuration options as the RAM 1500, but fewer trim levels. It offers three cab styles and bed lengths that range from 5-foot-8-inch and 8-foot. There are six total trim levels: WT, LS, Custom, LT, LTZ, and High Country. The base-level WT includes standard features such as xenon headlights, cruise control, air-conditioning, four speakers, and tinted glass.

Conclusions

The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado has a variety of ways to customize your truck, but not nearly as many as the RAM 1500. The 1500 is unique because it has one of the finest interiors of any truck, allowing it to take passengers anywhere in complete comfort. The 1500 also has a better selection of engines as there's far more variety between each. We have a range of 2017 RAM 1500s available right here on our lot and we would love to show you them today!
